The Uptights – Unsigned Bands

Intro

When I found this band, I was extremely excited because they’re MODs, and MODs are just the coolest, everything, the music, the style, the haircuts, just everything. I don’t have a lot of information on this band unfortunately, but I do know that they’re based in Southampton, which is bad for me because I can’t go and watch them in Southampton because I’m from crappy Birmingham. They take influences from, The Jam, The Libertines (So they’re already in my good books) and Joy division.

The Music

To my knowledge they’ve got 5 songs, and all of them are exactly how you would expect them to sound, loud , in your face, a commanding voice and blistering guitar riffs. The five songs are entitled ‘Liar’, ‘What comes around’, ‘Today’, ‘La’ and ‘The other side’. After listening to them all, I can honestly say there’s not one that is miles better than the other because they”re all they good. They’re all this good because they’re exactly what I want from this type of music. I’m going to put a few of the songs here, because I’d like you to go on their soundcloud and check them out yourself, and give them some feedback.

This one was released 3 days ago

If you wanna listen to the other two, get on their soundcloud! http://soundcloud.com/the-up-tight

If I really had to pick a favorite out of these three I think I would have to go with their latest ‘Liar’, mainly because of the attitude it has in it and I think the riff that’s in there is that loud and in your face, it has to be my favorite. Also the lyrics are just pure aggression, something that you can shout to the top of your lungs. Also from the first second it just goes, with that first drum beat it just pulls you in , and the rest of the song just makes you want more of the same.

In the second track that I’ve put on here ‘What comes around’, I think you can hear that Joy Division influence through the vocals. What I like about it is that even though they’ve took that Joy Division/Ian Curtis influence they’ve kept that uptempo beat with bass in the background, and that really loud drum beat as well, I think it works really well and I didn’t think it would.

‘Otherside’ is the final track that I’ve put on here, this is one of their oldest ones I think because it was brought out a month ago, but in a sense it’s still relatively new. I’ve pure put this on here because of the shouting part just after the chorus part, I think it’s class and have they have that shout in there, just so much attitude and aggression. When 2.12 comes, I think when this song has it’s brightest side because it’s got this cool little guitar piece slowing down the whole tempo of the song, the 3.06 hits and rock back into the middle of the song again, like your caught in a rut. I also like it because they’ve got the same affect as The Libertines ‘What a waster’ at the start haha.

Overall

Probably one the best bands I’ve listened to since I’ve started doing all the unsigned acts, because of everything in their songs, I could see these playing a gig with a crowd of people going mental, hopefully, it will happen one day. If I could sign em’, I would.

The Libertines Film – 18/05/2012

Haven’t been on here, haven’t even looked at my account since I was last on and even though I haven’t been posting got some nice viewing stats, so thanks to people for reading my old stuff. QUITE A LOT TO CATCH UP ON, lets start with this.

I went to see this on the 27th April at the O2 academy, now I winder why the fuck I did that. Well the reasons simple, because I wanted to be one of the first people to see it, and I wasn’t because it got called off on the original date (20th March) because Roger Sargent was ill, so I sort of lost the point of going. But I still went because I thought it’d be cool watching it with all the Libs fans and the sub-culture appreciating what a brilliant piece of work Roger Sargent had done, how fucking wrong I was.

In the queue there were people discussing how they didn’t even like the Libs, just came because of a couple of songs they heard which was written by the Libs. Those people should’ve just fucked off, if you’re not interested, go away. Watching the film was quite pleasant until people kept talking, it’s hard enough to hear Carl without people talking, with people talking, you’re fighting a losing battle. Oh yeah, and the drinks were 4 fucking pounds, ridiculous.

The Film

Ahhhhh, the film :), i’m so glad it arrived at my house the day after I saw it so I could watch again properly. It really was enjoyable, seeing Pete an Carl together, the interviews, the rehearsals, it was a breath of fresh air for a Libs fan, finaally some new material to chop on. To be honest, the film isn’t for you if you don’t have a bond with the music, if you feel nothing for the band, I’m sure you won’t like this because you’ve gotta know the songs, the relationship between Pete and Carl and interested in what they have to say. I loved it, and I’ll be watching it for some time, pretty sure I’ll show my grankids.

If you haven’t seen it and your a Libs fan, do yourself a favor and feed yourself on this.

Happy Birthday Pedro! – 12-03-2012 – AW

Pete, doing his thing.

Happy Birthday Pedro, he’s 33 today, and I hope he had a bloody good day, which I’m sure he has with all his alcohol and friends. I know it’s late but I’ve been double busy today, double busy, had a guitar session, discussing my future (still haven’t  figured out what the fuck I’m doing), played some fifa and had a couple of cans on the decking warming myself up for the summer.

So Pete Doherty, some people adore him and defend him in every way they can (me), and some people hate the ground that he walks over (majority of the people in the whole of WORLD). Either way, surely everyone has a song of his or piece of work of his that they enjoy, whether it be when he was with The Libertines, Babyshambles, Solo or one of his pieces of his art work. For all those people they say that dislike everything his ever done, well I will say this, you must of started nodding your head, jumping up and down to the beginning of Don’t Look Back In To The Sun.

A piece of Pete's artwork, which also used for his solo album "Grace/Wastelands"

Pete’s done many things in the past, some things just a stroke of genius and some perhaps the most stupidest thing he could of done at that time, either regardless to what he’s done, he’s devoted himself to his fans by bringing out music that changed people, that influenced people and that gave people their first love. Also some of the stuff he did in the early libertine days by holding gigs to devoted fans, to his youtube channel and posting songs up there and going out onto the street to play, he’s gave a lot. Unfortunately I believe he’s gave too much as he’s practically given his life to his fans, and he’s had to give up a lot to do that. However some of the stuff he may just of done anyway, but still he’s given it up like not seeing his Astile as much as he should.

Pete and his Son

Personally I think he created his best music when he was with Carl, whether it was because of the chemistry that had together, Carl’s ability to create great sounding riffs and Pete’s talent of writing such poetic and interesting lyrics. I also think the fans just loved how Pete ‘n’ Carl were together, sometimes I just wondered why they weren’t married to each other, because they should be because they love each other. Although I love the stuff he did with Babyshambles, both of the albums they did were good, it was just missing something, Carl’s input.

What became of the likely lads....

Just gonna close this post by choosing my favourite song, it’s not an easy one to do because I enjoy everything he’s ever done even some of his weaker stuff. With brilliant songs like, ‘Time for hero’s’, ‘Music when the lights go out’ , ‘Can’t stand me now’, ‘what Katie did’, ‘Lost art of murder’, ‘beg steal or borrow’, ‘I love you but you’re green’ the list could go on for quite a while. But I think it’s got to go to ‘Music When The Lights Go out’, purely because of the lyrics, I think it’s a perfect love song, I think the lyrics just make the song. It’s beautifully simple, simple riff, simple to sing but I think the lyrics just mean so much to so many people. It’s been on more than one occasion when I hear the song, the hairs stand up on my back ( sorry for the cliché). Anyway, happy birthday Pedro…..
