Single of the Week | Twilight Driving – ‘Between The Sheets’

Twilight Driving - Between The Sheets

Twilight Driving claim Single of the Week!

As if Brighton didn’t have enough good bands coming out at the moment, with the likes of Gender Roles, Lazybones and Suzi Island – but they also now have Twilight Driving!

Their latest release ‘Between The Sheets’ will really act as a marker for the band as it’s a complete banger. The heavy synth work on the track really is something to enjoy,  along with the large driving guitars. The breakdown in the track is euphoric and it must sound satisfactory hearing the whole thing come together live.

This really is starting to feel like Brightons Year for music and we all should just sit back and enjoy it, as another Single of the Week heads down South in the UK!

Hope you enjoyed this weeks single, be sure to check out next week when I will have another one for you!

BAYY – Dreams

BAY

Band:BAYY

Hometown: Brighton

Sounds Like: Nothing I’ve ever heard.

Dreams

This song was released a while back, but because of how busy it’s been, only just got round to it, so apologies guys! I’m a huge fan of BAYY, ever since I heard their first track they released on soundcloud ‘Aqaurium’, and since they’ve had me dangling on a thread waiting for the next track to be released. ‘Dreams’ showcases exactly what I’ve come to expect from BAYY, and they do it so well. This succulent, dreamy track just glides around your ears, while your heads in a slight daze from the simple riff with a gearwave twist that we’ve been handed.

The abstracted melodies continue to appear all around the song, and have that important catchy edge along with them. The lyrics just seem to swirl around as he sings ‘It’s Never gonna happen’, and continues to tell you to just give up, these words still linger around my head even though I listened to it nearly a month ago. The track edges me to go out of my way to see them live, because I know this would make the room glisten effortlessly. Another good track from the band from Brighton, and hopefully we will be seeing an EP/Album release soon, fingers crossed.

Ancient Times – Rani (Demo) – Unsigned bands

RANIIntro

Another post, doing quite well, feel like I’m on a bit of a role recently, and another Unsigned band! This time it’s ‘Ancient Times’, a band that come from Brighton. They’ve been together since July 2012, and the journey began when they recorded their first three demo’s, and realized ‘We’re actually pretty good at this, lets make more music’, and so they did. The e-mailed me, and its a good job they did, else I would have never have found them because of my lack of ability with the internet, I’m not very good at finding these new bands.

‘Rani’

Right before I rattle on about it, listen to the track while I nip off and make a brew.

Listened to it? Good isn’t it?

The song has really dark tone to it, especially with the vocals, while I was listening to it reminded me of Ian Curtis and Morrissey, perhaps if there voices were mixed, I think it would be this voice . Also if you listen closely to the lyrics they have dark undertone with them as well, but you do have to listen quite intently. There’s no doubt that the vocals are the center piece of this song, because they’re so prominent in this song, and also in the other ones that they have. Although the song has this dark tone to it, I find it quite uplifting as well in parts, which I find mainly in the chorus. I think the guitar in the song really compliments his voice because It’s not so loud and not brought to the forefront of the song. Also with the drums just slowly building it up just before the chorus, it’s like it’s building up the tension, and then chorus comes and it just blossoms. For a demo I think it’s rather good and I don’t think a lot has to be done to it, unless they have some interesting idea for it.

Overall

Another great band that I’ve had the luck of listening to, and hopefully I’ll be able to go and see them at some point. Also they’ve got some shows coming up which you can find on facebook. Very excited to see what else this band can come up with. Really advise you to listen to their other tracks that they have on their soundcloud, especially if you enjoyed that track.

BAYY – Aquarium – Unsigned Band

BAYY

Introduction

This band got in touch with me a couple of days ago, so the post should’ve been up a couple of days ago but I was in Liverpool, so that’s the reason for that delay. This is a four-piece that hail Brighton and have only been together for a couple of months, which is quite good for what they’ve come out with. They have a variety of different influences running through the band with all of them leaning towards different bands, Tame Impala, Black lips, Balkans and Warpaint just to name a few of the bands.  The band are already working on some new tracks and tell me it won’t be long until they’re out which I’m already looking forward to.

‘Aquarium’

Have a quick listen to the track before I bang on about it…

I’m a bit of a novice within this genre I’d say because I don’t have a rich knowledge of bands and artists when it comes to shoegaze and slightly psychedelic music, but I quite like it so I’ll give it a go. They call this music ‘Gearwave’, which is something that I’ve never heard of before, but after listening to this I will definitely digging deep within this genre. For me it’s a sound I’ve never really heard before, and I find it really interesting and actually quite catchy. It’s a song you need to listen to loud or with both earphones in, else you won’t be getting the full effect of it. The lyrics are extremely psychedelic, especially at the part where he sings ‘We’ll always love you, you’re always in our hearts’, it’s hard not to sing along after listening to it a few times.  Finally just a quick word on the vocals which I think really stands out in the song, and plays an integral part to the song. Overall  I think it’s a brilliantly produced piece of music, and how well they’ve worked to achieve the sound they now have, very excited to hear what these guys come out with next and hopefully I will be slightly more knowledgeable about the genre by then.
