Empty Lungs are a three piece punk rock outfit hailing from the Capital of Northern Island, Belfast! The band state that they’re too punk for indie, but too tuneful for punk, and it’s only until that you listen to their new track ‘Don’t Get It‘ that you understand what they mean.

‘Don’t Get It’ has this raw energy from the get go and the tempo refuses to slow down at any point which is a welcome feature. NEW MUSIC NOW! Winter Coat – ‘Into The Blue’

Today on New Music Now we take a trip into Wales as we put Cardiff Four- Piece Winter Coat under the spotlight and listen to their new track ‘Into the Blue‘. After listening to some of their material it’s easy to see their influences come from The War on Drugs, Wild Nothing and the like.

The song is a dreamy encounter having a hazy sound to it combined with beautiful lackadaisical vocals which could put you into a deep slumber, until the drums decide to take you by storm and throw you at a very hard brick wall. The song is packed with subtle build ups and guitar thrashing which makes for an interesting song structure, stepping away from the old traditional. The band can be proud of this release as it makes for a interesting listen, one that’s sure to convert you into their newest follower.

To carry on the NEW MUSIC NOW series we have London four-piece band CHILDCARE, who are signed to up and coming record label, Lost in the Manor Records. The band carry an alt-pop vibe, however they do take detours into a much heavier sound when prompted, as there new track showcases.

‘Kiss?’ has this unruly energy from beginning to end, because as soon as the song starts you have quick paced riff combined with these subtle vocals grasping your attention. Lead singer Ed Cares then goes into this monologue type introduction, as he lays the table for the rest of the song. It’s different to hear something like this, as he’s telling you the story as if you’re sitting with him. Once the track is in full swing in all its noisy glory you have to just sit back and admire it, because it simply turns into a great pop song with volume swayed up to eleven and the guitar going on a mad spree.

The track could easily be at the centerpiece of their gigs because of this raw energy it has going. The band have just been confirmed to play one of the biggest upcoming festivals The Great Escape, so if you feel yourself getting the itch to see the band why not make a weekend of it and see a load of other bands too!

NEW MUSIC NOW! Moonlands – “Shake,I Shook”

Today New Music Now falls into the the dreamy work of five-piece Moonlands with their new track “Shake, I Shook”, which sounds as promising as ever. The song boasts this larger than life feel, with the guitar work really centering in on this swooning atmosphere and creating a mini-Universe for the song to exist. It’s minimalist sound works perfectly as they measured each musical element well, nothing sounds like it’s drowned out or lost in the background.

The pace of the song is relatively slow yet it still maintains to have this edge, as the lead guitarist has this repeatable hook going, refusing to let you go. The final piece of the of the puzzle is vocals and they’re delivered with complete conviction and certainty. The soft voice just laying on this bed of dreaminess is a common dynamic, however Moonlands have put their own stamp on it by actually gripping you.

NEW MUSIC NOW! Warhaus – ‘Machinery’

Today on New Music Now, we can take a trip into a dark empty bar in the subarbs, where we find Warhaus frontman Maarten Devoldere on stage alone, gyrating while uncomfortably moving around.

Machinery‘ is a dark and twisted song about love, and how you can become completely consumed within it all and often use it to excess. This imagery is portrayed extremely well in the video although sometimes in can come across as unnerving, but this is clearly what the Devoldere was aiming for.

The music is as equally as eerie with the dull tones being the perfect backdrop for everything to fall into place, as the vocals slowly linger over the tame drum beat and subtly keys.  From the very start of the song where the lyrics “I don’t claim to be anything/ except yours to consume tonight”, it has that desperate feel to it which is held onto throughout.

The song won’t be played to get a party started, but it’s certainly a something to sit back and admire as a complete piece of art, from the video to the music.

NEW MUSIC NOW – The Sly Persuaders – ‘TFD’

Today on New Music Now The Sly Persuaders have crashed through the door with their new single “TFD”, and it’s punchy.

The songs breaks out with this subtle lo-fi sounding drums with a straight beat, leading into an abrasive guitar which throws you across the room.  Although the lyrics aren’t profound or telling an in-depth story, the song doesn’t need it as its blaring guitars keep you there and interested. The gripping solo really gives it that extra edge the song needed, plus with the sound they achieved makes the solo that bit more commanding. Its punky tone crossed with a stadium like sound makes it an incredible listen, it seems the band has found its niche.

NEW MUSIC NOW: Bokito – ‘Better At Getting Worse’

Today on New Music Now, London five-piece Bokito take the stage with their new single “Better at Getting Worse“, which keeps getting better with every listen. The song has a frantic pace from start to finish, with the manic rush of the catchy guitar riff combined with the unique vocal style of lead singer Moses Moorhouse. From everything from the breakdown to the outro, the band still keep that pace going refusing to lose your attention. It’s a well-produced piece of music with heavenly harmonies well placed throughout, along with the keys providing some depth to the sound. On top of all of this is that the chorus is inherently catchy, and easy to jump onto after only one listen.

There’s so much energy given throughout the song, it leads to the conclusion that it could easily become the bands go to song to force the crowd to lose themselves. Bokito you won’t be forgotten here, and have definitely gained a fan.

NEW MUSIC NOW! Twist Helix – “Pulse”!

On the never-ending quest of finding new bands and new music, it’s hard to ignore the larger than life sound of Twist Helix with their new track “Pulse”. The Newcastle based band have a clear idea of the music they want to make, as they craft an elctro-alt-pop vibe, which not many bands bring to the table, and they do it with conviction.

“Pulse” has a very cinematic sound to it, as it slowly builds up to these breakout vocals that could easily challenge some of the most commanding vocalists today. The addition of the pounding drums in the background gives it an unwavering tension which continues throughout the song, combined with the keys it almost has this sinister edge to it.

You cannot describe this type of music as easy-listening, but if you’re in the mood for listening to something a bit more grandiose, then Twist Helix are the band to listen to.

NEW MUSIC NOW! Little Comets – “Common Things”

16002811_10154875980322207_3112358318227916370_n

After a number of years of being away from the conscious minds of die-hard indie fans, Little Comets are returning with their brand new album ‘Worhead’ which will be released February 3rd 2017. However the single on show today entitled “Common Things” will be released on March 10th,and the band have released it early as a taster for the album.

The song has some sleek qualities to it with the high pitched riffs, beautiful harmonies combined with the sprinkled use of a synth where needed. The main vocals are on point as they match the music beat for beat and enhance the song. It’s a quick cheerful love song tied around the simplistic idea that he loves doing common things with the girl, which is easily relatable for most people.

No boundaries were broken by the band, but they have supplied us with a solid track which wouldn’t sound out of place in an indie disco. If the whole album follows suit, it looks like the band could be on for another strong outing.

NEW MUSIC NOW! Larkins – ‘Velvet’

14362428_641111619400002_7924440510843505022_o

Today we have up and coming band Larkins with their new single ‘Velvet,’ which has been released on Manchester based Scruff of the Neck Records. The quartet from Manchester have been turning heads since jumping on the scene earning over 2,000 like on Facebook and gaining quite a live following. However it’s this song which could very possibly help the band reach that next level, and take themselves to the next stage.

‘Velvet’ has a really clean sound which is matched by impeccable vocals and swagger, as the riff at the start is similar to something early Last Shadow Puppets work,  with it’s heavy reverb yet eerie feel. The song seems very minimal with a subtle synth, a basic drum beat and straight vocals. However that’s all the song needed at the start because it keeps your interest until the screaming like guitar work comes bursting through for the chorus.

It’s good to hear the band haven’t tried to follow in the footsteps of Manchester giants Oasis and The Stone Roses, as they would of easily drawn comparisons and more than likely sounded like a bad rip off. One thing Larkins seem to have inherited is the swagger that can be heard on the song, they don’t come across scared or timid, they’re confident and  are very aware of the talent they have which is something that is integral for any great band.
