’10 Questions’, the new feature on WFM, is finally here!
Only Shadows are a very talented indie four-piece who are quickly gaining momentum and a solid fan base. They are now the first band to take on the 10 Questions, and here are their answers.
First things first how did you come to be?
OS:We have all been playing in different bands down the years & after Nick (singer) got back from travelling we were all out of action & that’s when Only Shadows began.
What genre of music would you say you play?
OS:Good question! We would describe it as powerful pop rock with the alternative edge. We try to write music that explores different genres, for example our new track Let Your Guard Down explores our lighter and heavier sides in the space of 3 minutes.
Which bands/artists do you take influences from?
OS:We take influence from a lots of different bands, the big ones are the likes of Biffy Clyro, The Killers & Editors, but we love classic rock like Queen. Quite a mix! We try and incorporate all these and make a blend!
Best venue you’ve ever played and why?
OS:We love the Kasbah in Coventry, it’s a great sound & the dressing room is next to the dancers dressing room so that’s always a bonus!
Best gig you’ve ever attended?
OS:Queens Of The Stone Age at the Academy in Birmingham, words cannot describe how amazing that show was. What a band.
A band you would most like to support and why?
OS:The Killers or Biffy Clyro. Both have had such an influence on us and it would be an honour to share the stage with either.
A band that you would like to work with?
OS:Probably some one that isn’t too similar to us so we could learn new ways of working, maybe some one more electronic like Years & Years? See what would happen, if not then Katy Perry.
Top five albums you’ve ever heard?
OS:Biffy Clyro – Puzzle
The Killers – Sam’s Town
The White Stripes – Elephant
QOTSA – Songs For The Deaf
Death From Above 1979 – You’re a Woman, I’m A Machine
Biggest accomplishment as a band/solo artist?
OS:Probably some one asking if they could play our track ‘Be Still’ at their wedding, such a personal moment in their lives for our song to be playing was an amazing feeling for us.
What’s next in the pipeline?
OS:We have our new EP coming out in April which we are really excited about! Plus we are going on tour with Young Kato before the summer which we are really looking forward too. Hopefully some festivals over the summer followed by another EP release late 2015/early 2016.
Cheers guys for taking the time to complete the 10 questions, looking forward to hearing the new material
